Ludie Jaynes Overton

December 22, 1907 — September 10, 2001

Ludie Jaynes Overton, 93, of Waco, died Monday September 10, 2001in Plano, Texas. Services will be 1:30PM Friday, September 14, 2001at the Wilkirson Hatch Bailey Chapel 1124 Washington Ave., with Rev. Curtis Holland officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be held 6PM until 8PM Thursday September 13 at the Funeral Home. Mrs. Overton was born December 22, 1907 to the late Dock and Alpha Jaynes in Valley Mills, Texas and was a lifelong resident of Waco until her move to Plano two years ago. She was telephone operator at Waco Army Air Base during World War II. In 1959 she became cafeteria manager at University High School and retired in 1968 due to her health. She was awarded a Lifetime PTA membership at University High School. She and Mr. Overton served as worthy matron and worthy patron of the Centennial Chapter of the Eastern Star No. 842, she was also recently presented her 50-year membership award. Mrs. Overton was a member of the Leah Sunday School class of Columbus Ave. Baptist Church. The friends and family who knew and loved her will cherish the memory of her beautiful smile that she shared with strangers, friends and family, also her strength and cheerful determination to overcome her physical handicaps due to her stroke. She was a loving mother and fun grandmother. We will miss her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Louis E. Overton. Survivors include her daughters, Claudell and husband, Cliff Torrence of Plano; Patsy and husband, Warren Mason of Waco; grandchildren, Cathy T. Feist and husband James of Highland Village, TX; Craig O. Torrence and wife Rosie of Flower Mound TX; Stanley L. Mason and wife Kathi of Jersey Village, TX; and Claudia Lynn Mason of Euless, TX; six great grandchildren; and three great-great grandsons. Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
