Lydia Theresa Hurta February 11, 1913 – May 27, 2006 The Lord has been pleased to call to himself Lydia Theresa Hurta on Saturday, May 27, 2006. Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30 at Wilkirson Hatch Bailey Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Norm Steinke of Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Entombment following at the Mausoleum at Waco Memorial North Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be held from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Monday, May 29 at the funeral home. Lydia was born in Sandoval Community, near Taylor, Texas on February 11, 1913 to Edward and Lena Nickel Kerlin. She grew up in a rural family of 12 children, picking cotton and helping with housework and laundry for the 10 men in the family. Lydia was a life-long Lutheran and faithful servant to the churches where she worshiped in Taylor and Waco. She worked for many years as a cafeteria manager in the WISD. She married Rhode Frank Hurta in Taylor on February 20, 1936. They were blessed with a daughter, Gladys, called home to heaven in infancy, and a son, Glenn Roy Hurta. The Hurta’s celebrated life and love in Christ together until Rhode’s death February 16, 1996. Lydia follows her family members to Heaven: parents Edward and Lena Kerlin; sisters Martha Rodenbeck, Dora Wolbrueck-Smith; brothers Emil, Leonard, Arthur, Alvin, Eddie, Gilbert, and Walter. She is survived by son, Glenn Hurta and his wife, Janet of Waco, Texas; brothers Otis Kerlin and his wife Margaret of Granger, Texas, Martin Kerlin and wife Albina of Taylor, Texas; and many nieces and nephews.
