Lyle Kay Masterson December 21, 1942 – August 29, 2006 Lyle Kay Masterson passed away Tuesday, August 29, 2006 at her home after a long and well fought battle with cancer. A memorial service will be at 1:00 pm Wednesday, September 6 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with Ret. Rev. Sam B. Hulsey serving as Celebrant and Rev. Chuck Treadwell assisting. A descendant of Pioneer Waco and Beaumont families, Miss Masterson was born in Beaumont, Texas December 21, 1942 to Dan Kay Masterson and Lyle Seley Masterson. She graduated from Beaumont High School and attended Monticello Junior College, Godfrey, Illinois and Baylor University. She was “Duchess of Waco” in the 1962 Rose Festival of Tyler, Texas. Miss Masterson moved to Waco as a Buyer/Manager for the Colony Shoppe from 1965 to 1971 and later worked at the Crosthwait Clinic for Drs. Wilson and Robert Crosthwait from 1972 to 1974. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and a former member of the Junior League of Waco. Miss Masterson was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Judge Robert Earnest Masterson and Kate Selman Masterson of Beaumont; her maternal grandparents, Ira Winthrop Seley and Lyle Hickman Seley of Waco; her father, Dan Kay Masterson and mother, Lyle Seley Masterson; her brother, Robert Seley Masterson; her uncle, Ira Winthrop Seley, Jr.; her aunts, Martha Witt Seley and Louise Seley Johnson; and her cousin, Linda Johnson Hulsey. Survivors include nieces and nephews: Heather Masterson and Chris Devaney of Nashville, TN; Robert Seley Masterson, Jr. and Jennifer of Ft. Worth; Molly Masterson and Kristen Baumer of New Orleans, LA; John Maxwell Masterson and Heather of Ft. Worth; and William Colby Masterson and Catherine Seley Masterson of Alvarado; grand nephews and nieces include: Sam, Mary Lyle, George and Riley Devaney; William and Mary Claire Masterson; Vincent, twins Emma Rose and Michael Baumer; and Jack and Madeline Masterson. Her survivors also include cousins: Sara Seley Jones, Charlie and Ashley of Waco; Seley Johnson Fuller and Leonard of Corsicana; Hayes, Rosanne, Eric and Annie Fuller of Waco; Dr. Byron Hulsey and Jennifer of Huntsville, Alabama; Ashley Louise Hulsey Kittner and Marc of Seattle, Washington; sisters-in-law, Mary Glen Strange of Cleburne and Dawn Masterson of Alvarado. Especially remembered are the wonderful group of caregivers who gave comfort, love and support: Alicia Flores, Rocio Blake and Jamie York. Our special thanks and gratitude go to Jo Anne Briggs for her loving care. Without a doubt, God gave us an angel in Rosemary Flores who was Lyle Kay’s caregiver, companion and friend throughout her illness. She has been a blessing beyond measure. Also particularly remembered is Willie Deckard who has provided loving care and assistance for three generations of the Seley family. Our appreciation and thanks also go to Dr. O’Kani, his staff and the nurses from Providence Hospice. Honorary Pallbearers will be Robert Seley Masterson, Jr., John Maxwell Masterson, J. Gib Jones, L.
