Lyle Seley Masterson

MASTERSON, LYLE SELEY Lyle Seley Masterson, age 89, of Waco died Sunday, March 28, 2004 at her residence. Services will be held at 11am Wednesday, March 31, 2004 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with The Rt. Rev. Sam B. Hulsey officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Mrs. Masterson was the descendent of the pioneer Seley family of Waco, prominent in civic affairs of the city during the 19th and 20th centuries. Lyle was born in Paris, Texas on June 5, 1914 to Ira Winthrop and Lyle Hickman Seley. She graduated form Waco High School and attended Baylor University until her marriage to Dan Kay Masterson of Beaumont, Texas. Mrs. Masterson was active in the community life of Beaumont until returning to reside in Waco. In Waco she was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, St. Paul’s Guild, St. Paul’s Altar Guild, Junior League, The Sewing Club, and The Cotton Palace Board. Mrs. Masterson was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Ira Winthrop Seley, Jr., a sister, Louise Seley Johnson, her son, Robert Seley Masterson, and a niece, Linda Johnson Hulsey. Survivors include daughter, Lyle Kay Masterson of Waco, and an extended family which includes local residents Dr. Harvey M. Richey, Jr., cousin, Sara Seley, Charles and Ashley Jones, Hayes, Rosanne, Eric and Annie Fuller, and niece, Seley Johnson and Leonard Fuller of Corsicana, Byron Christopher and Jennifer Hulsey of Norfolk, Virginia and Ashley Louise Hulsey of Seattle, Washington. Lyle was a friend and inspiration to her extended family and all who knew her and beloved parent, grandmother and great grandmother to her daughter and son, her daughters-in-law, Mary Glen Strange of Cleburne and Dawn Masterson of Alvarado; grandchildren Heather Devaney and husband, Chris of Fort Worth, Robert Seley Masterson, Jr. and wife, Jennifer of Houston, Molly Baumer and husband, Kristin of New Orleans, John Maxwell Masterson and wife, Heather of Fort Worth, William Colby Masterson and Catherine Seley Masterson of Alvarado; great grandchildren, Sam, Mary Lyle, George, and Riley Devaney, Will Masterson, Vincent, Michael and Emma Rose Baumer, Jack and Madeline Masterson. Her very special friends who provided loving care and support were Eva Sisneros and Willie Deckerd. Pallbearers will be Hayes Fuller, Byron Hulsey, Robert Seley Masterson, Jr., John Maxwell Masterson, William Colby Masterson, Chris Devaney, Kristin Baumer, Charles Jones, Gibb Jones and Leonard Fuller.
