Madeline Quick

February 20, 1919 — February 22, 2016

Madeline Quick Feb. 20, 1919 – Feb. 22, 2016 Madeline (Parrott) Quick, of Waco, Texas, passed away two days after her 97th birthday, and was joyfully reunited with her husband, O. Q. (“Dick”) Quick, who preceded her in death in April of 2014. There will be a graveside service in March, when she will be buried next to Dick in a hilltop cemetery on the campus of William Jewell College, just across the street from the chapel where they were married. A beautiful setting for a beautiful life. Madeline was born in Sioux Falls, SD, to Rev. J. O. and Berniece Parrott. She attended William Jewell College in Liberty, MO, where she met Dick in her freshman year. They married on their graduation day in 1941, beginning a storybook 73-year marriage. After Dick’s release from the Navy in WWII, they moved to Baton Rouge, LA, where he began his career with Piccadilly Cafeterias. In 1949 they moved to Waco, and became active members of First Baptist Church and fans of Baylor University. Piccadilly called Dick back to Baton Rouge in 1968, where they lived until he eventually retired as President and CEO. Broadmoor Baptist became their church home and a source of wonderful friendships. After retirement, the Quicks moved back to Waco, and then to Edgemere Retirement Community in Dallas, before returning to Waco to be near their daughters. Madeline and Dick were dearly loved by their family, and by those who were blessed to know them. Their marriage was an inspiration to everyone, and as their children grew up and started their own families, Madeline and Dick were like magnets, drawing them back together for wonderful times and creating strong bonds that will continue the rest of their lives. Madeline is survived by four children, Richard Quick and his wife, Pamela, of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; Judy Quick and her husband, Charlie Belt, and Sue Garth and her husband, E. P., of Waco, Texas; and Paul Quick of Asheville, North Carolina; along with nine grandchildren and their families.
