Manuel Sotelo Delgado

Manuel Sotelo Delgado, 85 years old, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2021 at Hillcrest Medical Center surrounded by all his loving family. Mass of Christian burial will be at St. Francis on the Brazos Catholic Church on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, at 10 am. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Rosary will be Tuesday, October 12, at 6 pm, followed by visitation at 7 pm. Manuel Sotelo was born in Palmitos, Valparaiso, Zacatecas and grew up in Jerez, Zacatecas. He met the love of his life, Simona Cabral Vera, she was 17 and he 24 years old in Cienegitas, Jerez, Zacatecas. They dated one year and then they were married January of 1960. They had eight children while residing in Cienegitas, with one passing away at the age of 4 months. Eventually in 1976, the Sotelo family moved and settled in La Soledad, Zacatecas, a small ranch town outside of Fresnillo. Several years later, they added two more children to the family, with a total of 10 wonderful kids. Manuel dedicated his entire existence to his family. He loved his wife and children dearly. He grew up on the ranch and farmed most of his adulthood. During his downtime, he was an avid reader of his Bible, he was great at telling jokes, he loved playing dominoes, listening to music (Corridos), and spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was great at math and could recall memories from 50-70 years ago and describe such moments, vividly. He knew the Bible like the palm of his hand and he could recite any verse without looking at the Bible. He was an extraordinary son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and friend. To know Don Manuel, was to love him. He will be greatly missed by all that knew him. He is survived by the love of his life, wife of 61 years, Simona Sotelo Cabral; daughter, Lucia Sotelo and husband, 2 children, and 2 grandchildren; son, Vicente Sotelo, wife, 3 children, 3 grandchildren; son, Arturo Sotelo and wife, 5 children, 9 grandchildren; daughter, Genoveva Sotelo and husband, 4 sons; and 6 grandchildren; daughter, Maria Sotelo and husband, 3 children, and 3 grandchildren; son, Javier Sotelo, 3 children, and 4 grandchildren; son, Juan Sotelo and wife, 4 daughters; son, Nicolas Sotelo and wife, 3 daughters; daughter, Estela Sotelo and husband, 3 children; brother, Merced Sotelo; sister, Aurelia Sotelo. Most of his children and wife reside in Waco, one son lives in Chicago, IL, and his other two children live in Mexico.
