Margaret Ella Caruthers July 7, 1918 - May 9, 2010 Margaret Ella Stracke Caruthers, 91, passed away Mothers Day, May 9, 2010, in Missouri City, Texas. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, May 14, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be 6-8 p.m., Thursday, May 13, at the funeral home. Margaret was born in Washington D.C. on July 7, 1918, to Roy and Ruby Stracke. Her family moved to Mexia while she was still an infant. They moved to Waco when she was in elementary school. She graduated from Waco High in 1935, and then attended Baylor University, where she graduated in 1939. She began her teaching career as a high school business teacher the fall of 1939, and continued teaching business off and on for 30 years, taking off a few years to start a family. Her teaching stops included Star, Moody, Waco High, and finally, Lorena High School, where she taught for 23 years, retiring in 1981. Margaret was a member of Central Christian Church for over 60 years. She served a term as President of the Christians Women's Fellowship, was a member of the TRTA and was the last living charter member of the Delta Delta Chapter of Texas Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Sorority. She was a caring daughter, loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend who will be dearly missed. She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Leroy and Ruby Marie Stracke; her husband of 63 years, Robert Eldon Caruthers; and her brother, Sam Leroy Stracke. Margaret is survived by her daughter, Linda Caruthers of Port Lavaca, Texas; son, Robert E. Caruthers Jr. and wife, Cristy; three grandsons, Davis, Cole and Blake, all of Richmond, Texas; sister in-law, Sammye Caruthers Morrow of Elk Grove, California; sister in-law, Lou Ann Stracke of San Antonio, Texas; five nephews and two nieces. The family would especially like to thank Roxanne Grice, her caregiver, for the last 21 months.
