Margaret Lewis Roberts

December 11, 1919 — October 15, 2016

Margaret Lewis Roberts December 11, 1919 – October 15, 2016 Margaret Lewis Roberts died peacefully at her daughter’s home on Saturday, October 15, 2016, in Woodway. The service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 29, at Christ Church Waco, held in the Eagle Academy School Chapel, 6125 Bosque Blvd., Waco. Margaret was born December 11, 1919, to Ann Word Lewis and Harry Fairchild Lewis of Waco. She graduated from Waco High School and attended Baylor University and Texas University, where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. In 1941 Margaret married Jerry Bing Roberts of Port Arthur, Texas, where they resided until Jerry joined the Armed Forces. When he returned after several years in the South Pacific, they settled in Waco and built their home on Arroyo Rd., which was in those days ranch land. Gulf Oil Corp., his employer, transferred the family to various cities in Texas, Arkansas and Oklahoma, where she enjoyed each new home and became involved in church, civic, and political activities. Retirement brought them back to Corsicana where the Rotary Club named Margaret a Paul Harris Fellow in Jerry’s memory because of his accomplishments. Margaret had a passion for travel which took her all over the world. In 2003 she returned to live in Waco to be near her daughter, Lucinda Peeples, and her grandson, Chip. She was able to return to her childhood church of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church and once again became active in Waco activities. She is survived by her daughter and grandson; a niece in Toluca Lake, California; and four nephews in Georgetown, South Carolina. The family wishes to thank Kim with Home Instead Senior Care and Southern Care Hospice for their loving care and Al Joslin for his gift of music, both singing and playing the piano, and special friendship. The family also wishes to thank the priests of Christ Church Waco and St. Alban’s for their time in prayer and ministry. Also, for the many friends who visited. We will all miss her energy, good spirit and optimism. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Shriners Children’s Hospital or the charity of your choice. The family invites you to leave a message or memory on our “Tribute Wall” at www.WHBfamily.com.
