Margaret Middlebrook October 16, 1923 – June 22, 2007 Margaret Middlebrook of Waco passed away at her home on June 22, 2007. Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, June 26 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Bosque Chapel with Rev. Don Scott and Rev. Rebecca Hull officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 6-8 p.m. Monday, June 25 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Margaret was born on October 16, 1923 in Mineral Wells, TX to Charles and Alta Ann Bostick Wells. She attended schools in Waco; graduated from Waco High School; from Baylor University in 1955; and then received her masters from Our Lady of the Lake College in San Antonio in 1967. Margaret and Carl L. Middlebrook were married on May 26, 1944. He was killed in action on May 17, 1945 during WWII. She was a lifetime member of the Gold Star Wives of America. Margaret owned and operated White’s Drug Store and also operated a ranch near Crawford. Margaret worked for the Defense Department for 11 years and was a Social Work Consultant for the Central Texas Rehab Center. She served on the board of the Girls Club, ran a support group for the Divorced and Widowed at First United Methodist Church for 13 years and was a volunteer of Providence Hospital Auxiliary, as a life-time member. Mrs. Middlebrook was a member of the First United Methodist Church for many years and later rejoined her family’s home church, Austin Avenue United Methodist Church. She was also a proud member of The Society of Mayflower Descendents, the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the United Daughters of the Confederacy. One of the highlights of her life was when she was honored to carry the 1996 Olympic Torch in Waco. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl; and her brother, Charles Wells. She is survived by her sister, Jerrie Geisler and husband, Kenneth of Waco; her niece, Ann Harder and husband, Mike of Waco; nephews, Charles Floyd Wells and Edwin Rush Wells; sister-in-law, Ruby Wells; cousin, Dr. Buford Wells and wife, Juliet, of Orange, Florida and special friends, Juanita Suarez, Niki Hayes and Johnnie Ross. Memorials may be made to Austin Avenue United Methodist Church, Providence Auxiliary or the charity of your choice.
