September 19, 1916 — April 19, 2005

MCNAMEE, MARGUERITE CONCILIO Marguerite Concilio McNamee, passed away Tuesday, April 19, 2005 in The Woodlands, at the age of 88. Services will be at 1:30 pm Saturday, April 23 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Bosque Chapel with Dr. Glenn O. Hilburn officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm Saturday, April 23 at the funeral home. Marguerite was born September 19, 1916 in Waco. She attended Waco High School where she was Salutatorian of her 1934 graduating class. She graduated from Baylor University in the class of 1937, with a Bachelor of Arts degree. In 1938, she married L.V. McNamee. They were devoted to one another and shared a great love for teaching. In their early married life, they taught together in small communities like Mosheim and Vanderbilt. Following the birth of her children, Marguerite took time off from teaching to devote to their formative years. Once her children were enrolled in school, she returned to teaching at InterCity Elementary and Highlands Elementary in LaMarque. Although her teaching experience was largely in math, she became a very successful music teacher and was always involved in special music programs with her students. She was a founding member of Highlands Baptist Church in LaMarque and often served as pianist for the church. In 1959, Marguerite and her family moved to Waco, where she could be near her sisters and their father during the last years of his life. In Waco, she taught in a number of schools, including Meadowbrook Elementary and Brook Elementary. Following her retirement, she shared the joys of tutoring many students in her home, often working with her husband as a team, as they had done so many years earlier. She loved cats and more than once rescued abandoned pets which became her own. She loved to watch as her grandchildren would try to coax her cats from their various hiding places. For many years, she was a member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Waco and cherished her long association with her beloved Baylor University. She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Tomaja and husband David of The Woodlands; son, Gary McNamee and wife Noel of Lake Jackson; granddaughters, Amanda Rogers and husband Brady of Burleson and Rachel McNamee of Lake Jackson; grandsons, John Konopnicki of Waco and Douglas McNamee of Waco; numerous nieces and nephews; and numerous cousins, including Camille Smith and Doris Concilio, both of Waco. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Concilio and Tena Ground Concilio; her brothers, Paul Concilio and Vince Concilio; her sisters, Rosa Lee Concilio and Olga Kennedy and by her beloved husband of 64 years, L.V. McNamee. Pallbearers will be Amanda Rogers, Brady Rogers, Douglas McNamee, John Konopnicki, Rachel McNamee and Matthew Bryant.
