Marilyn Lois Ellis

d. August 15, 2006

Marilyn Lois Ellis died on Tuesday, August 15, 2006 in Houston, Texas at the age of 60, after an extended illness. Funeral services will take place at Agudath Jacob Cemetery in Waco, Texas on Thursday, August 17, 2006 at 1:30 pm. Rabbi Gordon Fuller will officiate. Marilyn was born in Waco, Texas, and graduated from Midway High School. She studied Art at Del Mar College in Corpus Christi, and later moved to Houston and worked for the Houston Community College System for over twenty-five years. In 2000, she took early retirement in order to do mitzvot community service. Marilyn volunteered at the Seven Acres Jewish Senior Care Facility, working in the gift shop, helping residents develop computer skills, assisting at parties and special events, and often dressed up as a clown to brighten the spirits of the residents. Marilyn was also a devoted volunteer for the Meals on Wheels program. Her service to the community was Marilyn’s greatest gift and everyone that met Marilyn soon realized that her loving spirit and friendly nature helped make the world a better place. The family wishes to express their sincerest appreciation to Dr. Marcia Katz, Dr. Cindy Ivanhoe, Dr. Bernie Silver, Dr. Brett Masel, the seventeen “angels” friends that took Marilyn to radiation treatment, the staff at Methodist Hospital, T.I.R.R., Transitional Learning Center, M.D. Anderson Breast Cancer Center, and Vitas Hospice representatives Cindy and Alaba for their care and support. Words cannot express our deepest gratitude to Seven Acres and the family of doctors, nurses, and staff that have loved, comforted, and aided Marilyn these last three years. The work and service that Seven Acres provides the Houston community is a blessing in itself, and Marilyn benefited from their unique ability to combine health care and comfort to residents and their families. Special thanks to Dr. Hattie Henderson, Ms. Pat Reed, the entire staff on the Miller Unit, and Mr. Malcolm Slatko. Her father, Albert Bernard “Abe” Ellis of Waco, preceded Marilyn in death. She is survived by her loving mother, Julia Ellis, and her devoted and loving sister and brother in law, Sherry and Lenny Dubin. Marilyn’s loves of her life were her two adoring nephews, Jordan and Jared Dubin, who she affectionately referred to as “my boys.” Marilyn is also survived by numerous Waco relatives from the Ellis, Rosen, and Harelik families. Memorial donations may be made in Marilyn’s name to Seven Acres, 6200 North Braeswood, Houston, Texas 77074.
