Marjorie Eggleston Edwards

August 26, 1930 — April 21, 2023

Marjorie Eggleston Edwards passed away under the loving watch-care of her daughter, Susan, and son-in-law, Steve Findley, on Friday, April 21, 2023 at their home in Waco, TX. The celebration of her life will be at 10:30 am, Saturday, April 29, 2023, at First Baptist Church, Waco with Pastor Steve Findley and Dr. Matt Snowden officiating. Visitation will be 5:30-7:30 pm, Friday, April 28, 2023 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home.

Marjorie was born August 26, 1930, in Yoakum, TX, to Arthur W. and Bennie Lee Eggleston. Growing up a child of the oilfield, Marjorie moved frequently with her family around Louisiana, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Texas. She was a graduate of Crowley High School and Louisiana State University, where she met her future husband, Cecil. She and Cecil moved frequently as he studied and then practiced medicine, including his time as an Air Force doctor in Germany, a hospital medical director and in private practice in S. Louisiana. Marjorie, Cecil, and their five children finally settled in Waco, where Cecil was Medical Director for 25 years at Baylor University and helped pioneer the Family Practice Medicine residency program.

Marjorie’s three greatest loves were the Lord Jesus, her husband, and her family. A lifelong passion for missions remained a constant, and through her witness many came to know and grow in the Lord – including many in First Baptist Waco’s Spanish-speaking and Vietnamese congregations that she and Cecil helped plant. She was devoted and committed to the church and for many years faithfully taught and shepherded numerous Sunday School classes wherever she lived.

She was known for her love, wisdom, practical sense, humility, generosity, selfless service, and extreme hospitality. Her intimate walk with Jesus, love for and obedience to the Bible, and fervent intercession undergirded her family and many others for decades.

She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur W. Eggleston, mother, Bennie Lee Eggleston, and her sister, Dorothy J. Merritt, as well as her husband, Cecil G. Edwards, Sr., and son, John J. Edwards.

She is survived by her son, Cecil G. Edwards, Jr. and wife, Linda, son, Arthur Edwards and wife, Peggy, daughter, Susan Findley and husband, Steve, son, daughter-in-law and wife of John, Martha Edwards, and son, Timothy. “Grandma” has fourteen grandchildren, who all adored her – Kendall Edwards, Trip Edwards and wife, Daniella, Katie Schrodt and husband, Jacob, Kristen Edwards and husband, Charlie Byrkit, Sarah Moore and husband, Hudson, Pierce Edwards, Matthew Edwards, Daniel Edwards, Shannon Ludrick and husband, Caleb, Sydney McGowan and husband, Joel, Brooke Edwards, Seth Findley and wife, Abby, Silas Findley and wife, Arden, Sergei Edwards and wife, Eva. These grandchildren blessed Marjorie with sixteen great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend special thanks to end-of-life care provided for Marjorie by Sandra Aguilar and Anne Penney.
