Marjorie-Ann Matheson Arrien August 30, 1930 – May 9, 2007 Marjorie-Ann Matheson Arrien, age 76, died Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at a local hospital. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 12 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Garden Room at 6101 Bosque Blvd, Waco. Interment will be at 2:15 p.m. Monday, May 14 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. Marjorie-Ann was born August 30, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York to Arnold M. and Gladys Wyckoff Matheson. She was raised in New York and New Jersey and graduated from Irvington High School in 1947. She attended Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York, graduating in 1951, and began teaching 4th Grade at South Mountain School in East Orange, New Jersey. On August 21, 1954, she married New York attorney Phillip F. Arrien. Through her husband’s advancing career with the U.S. Department of Labor, Marjorie-Ann made homes, friends, and memories in a life that took the couple from Greenwich Village in New York City to suburban New Jersey and Maryland, rural Pennsylvania, Duncanville Texas, even more rural Stephenville, Texas, and finally to Waco. No matter how far away she lived from where she began her life’s journey, Marjorie-Ann had a most amazing ability to make and stay in touch with good friends from all chapters of her life. Throughout all the moves and changes in their lives, Marjorie Ann focused her energy and attention on her family, particularly what she called her “proudest achievements”: son Phillip and daughter Kim, and later her grandchildren Stephen, Kate, and Andrew. Marjorie-Ann volunteered many hours at her children’s schools, and she served as a “Pink Lady” for the Stephenville Hospital Auxiliary. In the 1980s, she and her husband were active in the Erath County Republican Party, serving as delegates at the state convention in 1982. She loved opera, was an accomplished bridge player, and self-proclaimed political junkie. Marjorie-Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Arnold and Gladys Matheson, and husband Phillip F. Arrien. Marjorie-Ann is survived by her son, Phillip F. Arrien, II of Temple and his son Andrew, daughter Kim Patterson and her husband Frank of Woodway, grandchildren Stephen and Kate Harrison, and dozens of relatives and long-time friends from across the country. Her family would like to acknowledge the abundant love and care shown their mother by Ann and Paul Gibson and Darline Brown at Eden House; and the superb care of the Hillcrest MICU nurses and staff. In lieu of flowers, memorials for Marjorie-Ann may be made to the newly endowed Phillip and Marjorie-Ann Arrien Memorial Nursing Scholarship, c/o the McLennan Community College Foundation, 1400 College Dr., Waco, TX, 76708.
