Martha Ellen Cayce Bauman Martha Ellen Cayce Bauman, 93, of Waco peacefully and sweetly met Jesus Saturday, April 3, 2004 at her residence. Services will be held Wednesday, April 7, 2004. A graveside service will occur at 11:00 a.m. at Restland Cemetery in Gatesville followed by a Memorial Celebration at 3:30 p.m. in Waco at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey with Dr. Scott Walker officiating. The family will welcome visitors from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 6, 2004 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room, 6101 Bosque Boulevard, Waco. Mrs. Bauman was born September 21, 1910 in Gatesville, the fourth of five daughters to William Walter and Elizabeth Tucker Cayce. Her father died when Martha was four years old. After graduating from Gatesville High School in 1929, she married E. Price Bauman on June 4, 1929 and they made their home in Gatesville adjacent to the family grocery business, Bauman’s Super Market. Martha Ellen was a homemaker and helped in the store until she and Price retired and closed the store in 1973. They loved to travel, serve the Lord, help others and spend time with their grandchildren and extended family. She could make all hurts disappear with her special smile. Mrs. Bauman was a 4th generation member of First Baptist Church, Gatesville. From Sunbeam to W.M.U. president, she was a thoughtful, purposeful, faithful Christian. She taught primary Sunday School for over 30 years, served as Baptist Women’s President, Women’s Missionary Union Director, Coryell Associational Youth Leader, Assistant W.M.U. Director of Coryell Association, President of Morris Federation and was a member of Women’s Forum. In 1988, she moved to Stilwell Retirement Residence in Waco, TX where she served on the Stilwell Executive Committee, Residence Council, East Wing Leader and for many years acted as hostess in the coffee room. When she moved to Waco she transferred her church membership to First Baptist Church, Waco where she again was active in Baptist Women and W.M.U. as long as her health allowed. “Nana”, as she was lovingly called by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Aunt “Lell” by her nieces and nephews and “Motchie” by her cousins and sisters, always had a special greeting, smile on her face and twinkle in her eye. Her signature is on the lives of many as she passed along a heritage of love for and faithfulness to Our Lord Jesus Christ, family and friends. From Sunday meals with soldiers from Ft. Hood to creating magical Christmas celebrations, she was a hostess to the end always seeking to serve the needs of others. Her favorite verse, “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me,” Philippians 4:13 guided her through the years. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband and friend, E. Price Bauman, sisters Rosamond Harvison, Susie Mae Ellis, Wilhelmina Cayce, and Eugenia Lengefeld and great-grandson Dillon Murray. She is survived by daughters Betty Murray and husband Clarence of Midland and Phyllis Dunham and husband Cecil of Waco. Grandchildren Kathy and Jim Harrison and Becky and Mark McCraney of Midland; Tim and Angela Murray of Amarillo; Jennifer and Paul Sharrick of San Antonio; Craig and Donna Dunham and Susan and Jeff Anz of Waco. She is greatly loved by many great-grandchildren: Amanda, Katy and Josh Harrison; Price Thompson; Will, Rebecca, Matthew and Meagan McCraney; Ally, Lauren, Brandon and Bryson Murray; Jackson, Thomas, Andrew and Samuel Sharrick; Cayce and Jonathan Dunham; Elizabeth, Lauren, Garrett and Zachary Anz. She also held a special place in her heart for many loving nieces, nephews, friends, caregivers, Hillcrest Hospice and Stilwell staff.
