Martha King McNabb December 14, 1922 August 3, 2008 Martha King McNabb, 85, of Waco, passed away Sunday, August 3rd, 2008 at Hillcrest Baptist Memorial Hospital. A graveside service will be 9:30 a.m., Friday, August 8th, at Oakwood Cemetery followed by a 10:30 a.m. memorial service at First Baptist Church with Rev. Bryan Thornburg officiating. Martha was born December 14, 1922 in Waco, Texas to Ida and Walter B. King. She attended Waco Public Schools, graduating from Waco High School in 1940 where she met her lifelong love and partner, Harold Woodward "Mac" McNabb. She attended Baylor University where she was active in the DAP sorority and graduated with a degree in mathematics in 1944. She and Mac married on September 11, 1943 on a 24 hour pass in Uvalde, Texas where Mac was stationed preparing to serve as a fighter pilot in World War II. After the war, and after working briefly at Citizens Bank, Martha became a full time and devoted wife and mother. She was a 4th generation member of 1st Baptist Church her entire life. She was active in the Junior League of Waco serving as treasurer and working on many Charity Balls. She was a member of the Ridgewood Ladies Golf Association and was an avid golfer; she also served on the Evangelia Settlement Board of Directors and was a volunteer for many years with the Red Cross. She enjoyed Waco and was active through the years in various organizations including Hedonia, Historic Waco Foundation, the Fort House Board, Friends of the Library, Mayborn Museum and subscribers to the Waco Symphony. Having always loved Baylor and being a huge sports fan, in later years Martha was thrilled to be on the Big 12 Task Force. She also was a member of the Baylor University Libraries Board of Advocates and spoke at the 100th anniversary library rededication. Her great grandfather was F. L. Carroll who had donated the Carroll library to Baylor in the early 1900's. She and Mac were members of the Baylor Heritage Club and the Baylor Foundation, and, throughout the years, attended every Baylor game they could. Martha gave her children and grandchildren a gift of loving Mac. She was always his best friend and follower, enjoying everything in life with him by her side. She was a great mother and grandmother. She was a lady. Martha was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Betty King Williams and husband, Dave; her brother, Dr. Walter B. King, Jr. and wife, Anna Margaret; her brother, Frank Stamps King and wife, Virginia; and her son-in-law, James A. Coleman III. She is survived by her husband of sixty-five years, Harold W. McNabb; her son, Harold W. Woody McNabb, III and wife, Cathie of Dallas; her daughter, Mary McNabb Coleman of Waco; her grandchildren, Jennifer Craig and husband, Dennis; Jeff Mince and wife, Kuiama, all of Dallas; Julie McNabb of Austin; Jake Coleman, and Amy Coleman Martin of Waco; great grandchildren, Ellen, McKenzie, Emily, Conner and Patrick.
