MARTHA GRUETZNER September 30, 1926-October 12, 2005 Martha Gruetzner died at her home Wednesday, October 12, 2005. Services will be at 1:30 PM Monday, October 17, 2005 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Bosque Chapel with the Reverend Roy Marshall officiating. Burial will follow at Rosemound Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 PM Sunday, October 16, 2005 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. Martha was born September 30, 1926 in Waco, Texas to Lesly Chapman Attaway and Laura Alowiese Dawson Attaway. She attended Hewitt High School and graduated from Lorena High School in 1944. Martha attended Texas Wesleyan University, transferred to Baylor University during World War II, where she then graduated in 1948. She returned to Baylor and completed her Master’s Degree in Education in 1966. Martha was married to Winifred Gruetzner on December 20, 1946. She taught in Waco and Midway schools, retiring after more than 30 years as an educator. She was a member of the Texas State Teachers’ Association, First United Methodist Church of Hewitt and the LLL Club at First Baptist Church of Hewitt. She combined her love of teaching with her service to God by leading and teaching children for many years in Sunday school. She was also active in her church choir for many years. Martha loved to travel with her friends in the LLL Club. When she was home, she enjoyed reading, family visits and the company of her cats. She expressed her creativity through gardening, sewing, decorating, planning and preparing formal holiday meals for her family. She was a gracious hostess, a generous person, a loyal friend and loving mother and grandmother who held her family to the highest goals of the Christian life. Martha Lillian Attaway Gruetzner was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, W.A. Gruetzner. She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Shaw and husband Butch of Hewitt; son Howard Gruetzner and wife Ginger of Hewitt; brother Dawson Attaway and wife Margaret of Houston; seven grandchildren, Brad Baxley, Devon Grisham, Jeremy Grisham, Nancy Shaw, Kevin Shaw, Zachary Gruetzner and wife, Catherine, Corbet Conner and wife Timberly; five great grandchildren, Jennah, Rachel, Darielle, Sahara, and Joseph, and several wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins. Pallbearers will be Zachary Gruetzner, Corbet Conner, Kirby Culp, Bobby Kirkland, Billy Don Armstrong, Brad Baxley, Jeremy Grisham and Kevin Shaw. Honorary pallbearers are Chester Baxley, James Mitchell, Rob Mitchell, Matt Dawson, Charlie Maddux, Bob Johnson, David Attaway, Doug Attaway, Danny Attaway, Ricky Taylor, Johnny Taylor, Barker Chapman and Jerry Chapman.
