Martha Louise Davis

October 1, 1921 — September 21, 2015

Martha Louise Davis October 1, 1921 September 21, 2015 Martha Louise Hunt Davis, 93, of Crawford, Texas, passed away Monday, September 21, 2015. Services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, September 25, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 5:00 to7:00 p.m., Thursday, September 24, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Martha was born October 1, 1921 in Waco, Texas, to the late Albert Balfour Hunt and Helen Lee Baxley Hunt. She was a member of North Waco Baptist Church being baptized at the age of 13. She attended North Waco Elementary, West Junior High School and graduated from Waco High School in 1940. On March 28, 1942 in Yuma, Arizona, she married Charles Neff Davis of Ocee, Texas. They lived in San Diego, California until 1943 returning to the Waco then purchasing the family farm on Hog Creek in 1949. After a brief battle with cancer, Neff preceded her in death January 2, 1960. She then joined the family business, Million Item Wholesale, founded in 1940 by her father and worked there as Secretary-Treasurer until retiring in 1983. In the early days of her life there were no drive-in tellers at the bank. As a child she remembered being sent to the bank by her father to make a business deposit sometimes with her head wrapped in a towel because she had just shampooed her hair. That experience must have served a purpose in that she turned out to be a good business woman being able to keep the farm active, work full-time, and put both children through college. Preceding her in death were her three siblings, Weyman Harold, Albert Bryan and James Wallace Hunt. Martha is survived by two children, Charlotte Y. Burns and husband, Charles, Jr., of Houston and Gary L. Davis and wife, Connie, of Waco; three grandchildren, Charles K. Burns, III and wife, Lydia, Christin L. Burns Faykus and husband, Jordan, of Houston and Christopher T. Davis of Waco; and two great-grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to American Cancer Society. The family invites you to leave a message or memory in our "Memorial Guestbook" at www.WHBfamily.com.
