Mary Ann Higgins

April 12, 1947 — March 13, 2012

Mary Ann Higgins April 12, 1947 March 13, 2012 Mary Ann Dominguez Higgins passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 13, 2012. During her short life she touched lives, saved lives, and lived for her family. A Mass in commemoration of Mary Ann's life will be celebrated at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, March 17, at St. Philip Catholic Church with the Rev. Cyril Ejaidu as Celebrant, followed by interment at the China Spring Cemetery. Visitation will be at 6:00 p.m. with rosary to be recited at 7:00 p.m., Friday, March 16, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Mary Ann was born on April 12, 1947, in Asa, Texas, to Tommy and Ernestine Dominguez, who both preceded her in death. She was married to Bill Higgins on June 1, 1973 and together they raised two wonderful children. Mary Ann wore her heart on her sleeve and always found a kind word to say about everyone. She gave of herself unconditionally; and everyone loved her for it. This was what defined Mary Ann. Her legacy will be her flawless reputation as a caregiver and protector of children and of those less fortunate. We will never know how many lives she touched as she always served quietly. She was a fierce lover of all animals, most importantly her cows, donkey and "her Baxter"; and has been known to surreptitiously feed and comfort many strays. Her recent days were filled with loving kisses and the smiling faces of her three beautiful grandchildren, who could light her face by walking into the room. She was looking forward to the birth of two new grand-babies who will be welcomed later this year. Although Mary Ann will be missed by all who knew her, we are comforted in knowing that in Heaven she is able to have her cake and eat it too, will never have to endure another needle, and most importantly to her, she will be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Waco, Texas and also attended St. Philip Catholic Church in China Spring. Mary Ann is survived by her husband, Bill Higgins; her daughter, Christina Higgins-Ratcliff and husband, Reagan; and son, Tommy Higgins and wife, Courtney; and her three grandsons, Jacob Ratcliff and Isaac and Asher Higgins. She is also survived by her two sisters, Cathline Dominguez of China Spring, Hope Dominguez-Reese and her husband, Rev. Charles Reese of Kerens, Texas and her brother, Joe Anthony Dominguez and wife, Winnie of San Antonio, Texas. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 1312 Dallas St., Waco, Texas 76704.
