MARY EDNA BRIGANCE Mary Edna Brigance, age 93 of Waco died Friday, August 01, 2003 at a local retirement center. Graveside services will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday, August 04 at Oakwood Cemetery with Rev. Angelo Bertini officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, August 03 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Miss Brigance was born in Waco on September 29, 1909 to John and Annie Wolfe Brigance. She graduated from the Roman Catholic convent school in Waco and then attended a music conservatory before becoming a Roman Catholic nun. She received a B.A. from a university in Belgium, followed by a M.A. from a California university. Miss Brigance taught in Roman Catholic schools in Fort Worth, Dallas and Houston before leaving the convent to work for the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. She later returned to Dallas and worked at Otis Engineering until her retirement at age 80. In 1998 she returned to Waco to be close to her family.
