Mary Elizabeth "Nancy" Cobbs Page was welcomed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on January 12, 2018. Nancy’s life will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 20, at Bosqueville United Methodist Church, 7377 Rock Creek Road, Waco, Texas, 76708, to be followed by fellowship and visitation with family and friends. Reverend Wayne Williams will serve as celebrant. Nancy was born on January 5, 1926, at the Cobbs family farm in the Bosqueville community to John S. and Carrie Lester Cobbs. She grew up with her parents, her brother, Tommy, and her sister, Carolyn, on farms and ranches in the Bosqueville community, at Chapman Ranch, Texas, and near Rosebud, Texas. Nancy graduated from Rosebud High School in 1943. On May 20, 1943, a week after graduation, she married J. B. Page. Shortly thereafter, he entered the U.S. Navy. During the last year of the war, when J.B. returned from overseas, he was reassigned to load ships at Port Chicago Naval Magazine in California. Nancy joined him there and worked in the office preparing and checking the manifests of the ships that J. B. and his fellow sailors loaded. After the war ended, Nancy and J. B. returned to McLennan County. Before Nancy and J. B. started their family, Nancy worked for Waco psychiatrist, Dr. John Talley, whose mentoring, shared wisdom and guidance was cherished by Nancy. When her children, Randy and Cari Nan, were born, Nancy devoted her life to being a full time wife, mom, then later grandmother and great-grandmother. Nancy cherished J.B., her children and all her family. She enjoyed her garden and the home that she and J.B. made together. Nancy and J.B. gave all who knew them a great example of a Christian marriage and a partnership to serve the Lord. She was previously a member of Bosqueville United Methodist Church, Brookview United Methodist Church, and Central United Methodist Church. At the time of her passing, Nancy was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waco. Nancy actively served in all those churches, often in leadership capacities. Nancy had a passion and a talent for working with the women of the church through United Methodist Women. Nancy was an organizer, a motivator, a mentor and a leader to women of the church. In addition to serving and leading, Nancy loved worship and studying God’s Word. Nancy and J. B. served on the committee which planned and resulted in the formation of Central United Methodist Church by combining three Methodist churches. Later, Nancy and J. B. also worked tirelessly to help reopen Bosqueville United Methodist Church. For the past several years, she has been living at Brookdale – Lake Brazos, where she organized, led and coordinated many activities and groups. In her most recent effort, Nancy organized a garden club in association with the McLennan County Master Gardeners, who helped the residents by building raised flower beds so that the residents could have their own garden. She enjoyed the new friends she made and was continuing to lead the garden club when she became ill. She enjoyed regular visits from Baylor students, who she also put to work in the garden. Her life was greatly enriched by regular visits by Stephen Ministers from First United Methodist Church. She very much enjoyed her time at Brookdale, and the friends she made with the residents and staff there. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of nearly 63 years, J. B.; her grandson, Russell; and her brother, Tommy. She is survived by her son, Randy and wife, Shirley; her daughter, Cari Speer and husband, Doug, of Amarillo; grandchildren, Christie, Sara, Staci, Jay and his wife, Haley, and Mandi; great-grandson, Ryan; sister, Carolyn Songer of Burkburnett; and numerous nieces and nephews and other family and friends. Honorary pallbearers are Doug Speer, Jay Speer, Jana VanderWoude, Arlan Riddle, Christian Rudisel, Dakota Phelps, the McLennan County Master Gardeners, and the United Methodist Women of the First United Methodist Church of Waco. The family is extremely grateful to Alisha Crain, and the caregivers and staff of Scott and White Hospice and The Brazos of Waco, who cared for Nancy during her final days. The family gives thanks and praise to Our Lord and Savior for blessing us with Nancy for 92 years, for walking with and carrying Nancy, her family and friends, through this time, for healing Nancy, and for welcoming Nancy into His heavenly presence for eternity.
