HICKS, MARY FRANCES Mary Frances Neill Hicks, age 80, of Waco, died Sunday, March 17, 2002. A memorial service will be held at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church at 1:00pm Friday, March 22 with Dr. Charles Herty officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. Mary Frances was born October 8, 1921, to Opal and Patrick Neill. She was married to former Waco Mayor D. T. Hicks, Jr. on September 30, 1941. He died April 23, 1977. Mary Frances was a fifth generation Texan, descended from Captain Thomas Hudson Barron, first commander of Fort Fisher, as well as early Texas settler and Texas Ranger William Neill. She served as President of the Daughters of the Republic of Texas. Mary Frances was an active member of numerous social, historical, and cultural organizations, including the Junior League, Historic Waco Foundation, St. Alban’s Altar Guild, Baylor Fine Arts Committee, and the Waco Symphony Women’s Council. A son, D. T. Hicks, III, also preceded her in death, in 1943. She is survived by son, Neill DeWitt Hicks and his wife, Andie of Bear Valley Springs, California; and daughter, Leslie DeAnne Hicks of Waco. The family would especially like to thank Darline, DeDe, Tamika, and the staff of Heart and Home, for their loving attention and care.
