Mary Frances Pryor of Waco dozed off for a little nap in the arms of her Lord and awaked in Heaven Tuesday, May 26, 2009 at her residence. Services will be 2:30 p.m. Friday, May 29, at First Baptist Church with Rev. Dan Pryor officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calm Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday, May 28, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. Mary was born November 6, 1925 in Mt. Calm, TX to Bob and Bill Scruggs. She graduated from Mt. Calm High School. She married H A Hap Pryor on March 21, 1943, on the eve of his overseas 32 month deployment during WWII. They were blessed with one son, Pat Pryor. After a year struggling at share-cropping, she and Hap relocated at Texas City in 1947, where he found work at Amoco. At Hap's encouragement Mary entered the University of Houston, graduating in 1961. She enjoyed her 20 year career as a 1st grade teacher in Texas City. Because of Hap's failing health they moved to Waco in 1983 to be closer to their family. After Hap's death in 1987, Mary returned to teaching at the Waco Baptist Academy, until her love to travel and her family beckoned. Blessed with good health and a cheerful, generous spirit until her final day, she volunteered at Hillcrest, First Baptist Church ESL Ministry and the Gospel Caf. In January of 2009 she served as a missionary from First Baptist Church to Guatemala. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her loving husband of 43 years, Hap; brother, Orvis Scruggs and sister, Doris Scruggs Doherty. She is survived by her adoring son, Dr. Pat Pryor and wife, Gail; grandchildren, Matt Pryor and wife, Paige; Amanda O'Connor and husband, Christiaan; and Jeremy Pryor; great grandchildren, Jake Pryor, Mairead O'Connor and Granddaughter O'Connor soon to be born.
