WARTHA, MARY HELEN Mary Helen Duke Wartha, 90 of Waco, passed away Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at a Waco nursing home. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am Friday, November 19 at Notre Dame Catholic Church after which she will be laid to rest with her devoted husband, Arthur J. Wartha at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens in Michigan City, Indiana. Mrs. Wartha was born December 20, 1913 in LaPorte, Indiana to Harry E. and Sara Zuercher Duke. She graduated from LaPorte High School in 1932. She married Arthur J. Wartha September 13, 1937 in LaPorte, Indiana at St. Peters Catholic Church. She worked for LaPorte County Department of Public Welfare from 1934-1938 and Michigan City News Dispatch, as Proof Reader from 1959-1979. Her associations include Notre Dame Catholic Church, Notre Dame Rosarians, Catholic Women’s Study Club, Michigan City Service League Honorary Member, and Charter Member of St. Anthony’s Hospital Guild. Mr. Wartha preceded her in death February 16, 1992. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Thomas Held, and three brothers, Harold, Norman, and Charles Duke. Survivors include children, Jerry Wartha of Waco, Texas, Mary Jo Lubs and husband, Jerry of Plano, Texas, and Michael Wartha and wife, Kathy of McGregor, Texas; grandchildren, Chris Lubs, Ryan Lubs, Patty Wartha Neiper, Eddie Wartha, and Michael Scott Wartha; three great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
