Mary J. Shelnutt Thorn February 21, 1910 – September 24, 2006 Mary J. Thorn, 96, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, September 24, 2006. Graveside services will be at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 27, at Oakwood Cemetery with Pastor Steven Jackson and Pastor Jerry Zucha officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 26 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Mrs. Thorn was born in Aquilla, TX to Henry E. Bert Shelnutt and Bertha Cauble Shelnutt. It was at the Aquilla Baptist Church that she came to know her Lord and was baptized. She was a member of Bellmead First Baptist Church most of her life, and Chalk Bluff Baptist in her later years. She married Marvin Thorn in December, 1926, in Bellmead, TX and lived there until recent years. The light of her life was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her passion was her flowers and she was an avid reader. She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Marvin; sisters, Laura Pearl Hickson and Jenny Ruth Carey and brother, Jack Shelnutt. Mrs. Thorn is survived by her son, Tom Thorn and wife, Joyce of Palestine; daughter, Shirley Robison and husband, Conrad, of McGregor; grandsons, Terry Thorn and wife, Jessie, Steve Thorn and wife, Cathie, both of Palestine; Kenny Robison and wife, June, of Hickory, NC and Randy Robison and wife, Melodie, of McGregor; granddaughter Jennifer Zucha and husband, Jerry, of Sachse; great granddaughters, Amanda Robison and Jonna Zucha; great grandsons, Brian, Jonathan, and John Thorn, Steven and Andy Robison, Zachary and Parker Zucha, and Scott Robison and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at St. Catherine’s Center and Providence Hospice for their loving care of Mrs. Thorn.
