January 26, 1945 — February 23, 2014

Mary Louise Hearn January 26 1945 February 23, 2014 Mary Louise Hearn died Sunday, February 23, 2014 after a difficult battle with cancer. She remained a powerful inspiration to others as she fought this battle with courage, strength, and faith in God, his son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 28, at Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit with the Father Tom Rardin officiating. Burial will be 9:00 a.m., prior to the service at Rosemound Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, February 27, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. Mary Louise's life was one of service and leadership. She was especially active through the Episcopal churches of Holy Trinity in Dickinson, Texas where she lived 25 years, Trinity Episcopal Church in Galveston, Texas and in her final church home, The Episcopal Church of the Holy Spirit in Waco, Texas. She served as a faithful worker and often as leader on parish vestries, altar guilds, church choirs, lay reader volunteers, outreach communion teams and many initiatives such as Holy Trinity's annual Strawberry Festival, Power Team Performance, holiday meals to the homeless and annual conference delegations. For decades in the three congregations, she served with other church women through her beloved organization Daughters of the King. In Galveston Mary served as First Lady at Texas A&M University at Galveston during 2 1/2 years when her husband Bill was Interim CEO. Additionally, because of Bill's 34 year tenure at TAMUG as the senior student affairs officer, Mary was a gracious host to decades of students who lived with them temporarily or attended numerous functions in their home. Also in Galveston Mary was active in several community initiatives but particularly noteworthy was her service on the Board of the Galveston Salvation Army where for several years Mary organized the annual Christmas initiatives providing food to hundreds of families and gifts to their children. For fifteen years Mary worked for Barrios Technology where she was a pioneer in learning and using computer technologies. She was self taught but became such an expert in desk top publishing and other skills that most of her friends and certainly her husband depended on her as a "help desk." She would invariably become the newsletter publisher in the various organizations that she or Bill volunteered in. At one point she even built her own computer. She was an avid social media participant where one of her passions was sharing pictures of homeless pets available for adoption. Mary loved to travel and had the opportunity to visit Europe & China, when she and Bill participated in a People-to-People exchange, and England, when Bill participated in an Oxford Round Table. During her cancer treatment Mary took the lead in organizing a Caribbean cruise for her cousins and spouses. Mary was a great Mom to her three daughters, a beloved grandmother to seven and a great grandmother to one. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Bill Hearn; her daughters, Carol Scott of Lorena and her husband Ken, Kim Hawkins of League City and her husband Joel, and Beth Williamson of Pearland and her husband Rich; and her brother, Bob Summers of Fredericksburg and his wife, Alana. In lieu of flowers Bill ask that donations be made to the Texas A&M University at Galveston William C. Hearn '63 Student Development Endowment that supports leadership development initiatives.
