Powell, Mary Mary Louise Powell, 94, passed away Friday, July 15, 2005. Graveside services will be Thursday, July 21 at 10:30 AM at Meridian Cemetery in Meridian, Texas. Miss Powell was born August 30, 1910 to Dr. Wm. H. and Nancy Jane Alexander Powell in Glen Rose, Texas. At the age of four years, she and her family moved to Meridian. The youngest of eight children, she attended Meridian College and Texas State College for Women in Denton and then taught in the Houston Public Schools for 45 years before retirement. She was a member of Texas Retired Teachers Assn. and the teacher’s honor society, Delta Kappa Gamma, Int’l., Delta Upsilon chapter of which she was president in 1972 – 1973. She is survived by four nieces, Helen Smith of Waco, Maxie Hoerster of Fredericksburg, Mary Lee Albright of Dallas and Lullene Spiller of Houston as well as numerous grand nieces and nephews. Louise is remembered as loving children and cats. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Fuzzy Friends or the Humane Society.
