JAMES, MARY Mary Markette James, 77 of Waco, died Thursday, January 13, 2005 at a local hospital. Services will be held at 11am Saturday, January 15 at Lake Shore Baptist Church with the Rev. Dorisanne Cooper officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be from 5-7pm Friday, January 14 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Mrs. James was born February 5, 1927 to George Watts Markette and Vera Bryant Hood Markette in Americus, Georgia. She attended Georgia Southwestern College in Americus. Mrs. James worked for the Waco Independent School District as a registrar and admissions secretary, 1967 through 1973, and managed the Tea Room in Waco Historical Foundation’s Fort House, 1975 through 1976. For twenty years as a wife of an air force officer, she was very active in social affairs, which included the officers’ wives club, family services and modeling. Creative and beautiful, Mary Mia had a wonderful sense of style. She was a fabulous cook and hostess and was happiest going to or having a party. She was preceded in death by her two husbands, Lt. Col. USA Ret. Lewis McCollum Weaver and Judge John A. James, Jr. and a brother, George Watts Markette. Survivors include daughter, Suzanne Weaver of Dallas and son, Carl Weaver and wife Terry of Sonora; stepdaughter, Susan Jane James of Dallas and Marion Ruth Shiflett and husband, Mike of Arlington; stepson, Dr. John A. James, III and wife, Nancy of Corydon, Indiana; grandchildren, Donnie Weaver and wife, Carla and Carla Weaver; step- grandchildren, Dr. James Mason Shiflett and Dr. Amber McGrath Shiflett, Sarah Jane Shiflett, John Claton James, Benjamin Duncan James, and Jamie Fox and wife, Paula; great grandchild, Ryan Weaver; brothers, Steve Markette and wife, Emily of Victoria and Edward P. Markette and wife, Barbara of Americus, Georgia and devoted friends and caregiver, Andrea Lopez. Memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Research.
