Mary Melony Cumbie took her heavenly flight Wednesday, November 4, 2020. Melony was born November 7, 1951, in Waycross, Georgia, to Mary Virginia Sloan Thomas and John Wynsdohl Thomas. She graduated in 1969 from Waycross High in Waycross. She furthered her education at Dallas Baptist University in Dallas, Texas, then graduated with a masters from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas. Melony served on church staff as Minister of Preschool and Children in Birmingham, Alabama, and Winston Salem, North Carolina, First Baptist Church. Melony married Clayton “Earl” Cumbie on December 13, 1980, in Fort Worth at Oak Knoll Baptist Church. After marriage Melony was employed by the State of Arkansas as director of programs for Old Washington Historic State Park, Department of Human Services, and Librarian for the Hempstead County Library in Hope. She was also employed by the state of Oklahoma at the Grove City Library. In addition to her public employment, Melony dedicated her life to working for the Lord, spreading His word and was a faithful daily prayer warrior. She was preceded in death by her father and grandparents. She is survived by her husband, Earl of Waco, Texas; her mother, Mary Thomas of Jackson, Mississippi; one brother, Jerry Thomas of Terry, Mississippi; one sister, Judy Brazelton of Galveston Texas; six nieces; and extended family, Tonja, John, Luker, Helen Clark, and Spencer Frances Hays, all of Texarkana.
