Berry, Mary Nelson Quin April 17, 1917 – September 20, 2005 Mary Nelson Quin Berry, loving and beloved wife, Mother, Grandmother and friend, passed on to peace Tuesday, September 20, 2005 and into George’s arms to celebrate their 67th wedding anniversary. Graveside services will be at 10:00 AM Friday, September 23 at Oakwood Cemetery with Father Chuck Treadwell and Father Brad St.Romain officiating. The family will receive visitors from 6 to 8:00 PM Thursday, September 22 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. “The strife is o’er, the battle done; The victory of life is won; The song of triumph has begun: Alleluia!” Born in Aline, Oklahoma on April 17, 1917 to Harry Carter Quin and Mary Rebecca Canny Quin, she was a graduate of the University of Texas where, she met and married George William Berry – thus beginning a loving odyssey of 58 years together until his death in 1996. She was a devoted parishioner of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, where she served tirelessly as a member of the Altar Guild for many years. Her memory will live on through her exquisite needlepoint at St. Paul’s as well as at Camp Allen and Christ Church Cathedral in Houston. She was a member of the St. Paul’s Episcopal Day School Board, McLennan County Medical Alliance, Providence Hospital Auxiliary, Historic Waco Foundation, Earle-Napier-Kinard House Board, Waco Symphony Association, Waco Cotton Palace and the Current Event Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, her brother, Harry Quin and grandson Danny Machac. Survivors include her son, George William Berry, Jr. & wife, Patsy; daughter, Carolyn Berry Matteson; grandchildren, Charles Reed Berry & wife, Christy of Austin, Brady Lindsay Berry of Austin, Marc Machac & wife, Becky of West, Nicole Johnson & husband, Scott of China Spring, Tonya Sullivan Knauth & husband, Rick of Houston and her namesake, Mary Quin Matteson of Austin. She is also survived by great grandchildren, Cleo Emily Berry, Cayden & Makenzie Johnson, Lane & Lance Machac and Christopher Michael Knauth & Katherine Sullivan Knauth. Other survivors are sisters-in-law, Betsy Quin of Edinburg, Dorothy Berry of Houston, Ruth McCord & husband, Jim of Leola, Pennsylvania and Jan Morris & husband, George of Lubbock; nephews, Ken & Christopher Quin; nieces, Julia Morris-Meyers, Amy Rangel, Mike McCord, Ann Farrar, Nancy McCord and special friend, Bertha Steward.
