Mary Penland Christie

Mary Penland Christie March 14, 1916 – November 27, 2005 Mary Penland Christie, passed away November 27, 2005 in Palestine, Texas, where she was recovering from major surgery. Graveside services will be at 1:00 PM Saturday, December 3 at Oakwood Cemetery. Mrs. Christie was born March 14, 1916 to G. H. Penland, Attorney and former General Solicitor of MKT Railroad and Helen Edmond Penland in Waco, Texas. She graduated from Highland Park High School in Dallas, Texas in 1934 and attended the University of Texas in 1934 – 1935. She married A. B. Christie, Jr., MD, who became a Colonel in the U. S. Army and later had a private practice in Port Arthur, Texas. She was a member of the Pan American Round Table in Dallas, attended the Episcopal Church of the Incarnation in Dallas and retired as a consultant from the American College of Surgeons. She was preceded in death by her, husband, parents, brothers, Harvey Penland, Jr., LtJG, US Navy, who was killed in action during World War II in 1943 and Ed Penland of Sherman; sister, Sarah Penland Lahey of Kansas City, Kansas and grandson, Harvey Alain Christie. She is survived by her children, A. B. Christie, III and wife, Marie-Louise of Garland, William Edmond Christie and wife, Carol of Houston, James Harvey Christie of San Antonio and George Penland Christie and wife, Ellen of Galveston; grandchildren, Mary Anna Coe and husband, Relvert Coe, M.D. of Palestine and William Edmond Christie, Jr. of Somerville; great grandchildren, Sophie Coe and Madeleine Coe of Palestine as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews throughout Texas and the USA.
