Mary Virginia Mcglasson Flemming

May 6, 1936 — September 2, 2016

Mary Virginia Flemming May 6, 1936 – September 2, 2016 Mary Virginia McGlasson Flemming, 80, passed away peacefully on September 2, 2016, surrounded by family. Born Mary Virginia McGlasson in Waco, Texas, on May 6, 1936, “Ginger” graduated from Waco High School in 1954. She attended Baylor University, where she met Dale Flemming, whom she married on March 18, 1956. A devoted homemaker and mother, she successfully negotiated the hazards and stress of raising three rambunctious boys. She was the glue that held the family together and always filled her home with music. Virginia leaves a rich spiritual legacy with friends and family. Throughout her life she was active in various church ministries, such as prayer, counseling, and newsletters, but she especially enjoyed singing in the choir. Singing was her passion; she performed in numerous choirs and groups, occasionally sang as a soloist, and led sing-alongs in local nursing homes. Highlights for her were the Holy Land Tour Choir from First Baptist Merritt Island in 1973 and the annual presentation of Handel’s “Messiah”, which she performed for nearly 30 years with the Messiah Choral Society in Orlando, Florida. She is survived by her sons, Kenneth (Tracie), David (Judith), and Randall (Nancy); 14 grandchildren; sister, Martha McHenry (Al); and brothers, Robert (Gloria) and Lawrence McGlasson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; parents, John William, Jr., and Martha (Boothe) McGlasson; and brothers, John William and George McGlasson. A graveside service will be conducted at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco on Saturday, October 1, at 3:00 p.m. Also, a memorial service will be conducted in the chapel of the First Baptist Church of Merritt Island, Florida, on Sunday, October 9, at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in her name to Focus on the Family (www.focusonthefamily.com) or the Messiah Choral Society (www.messiahchoralsociety.org) would be greatly appreciated. The family invites you to leave a message or memory on our “Tribute Wall” at www.WHBfamily.com.
