Mary Webb Barnhill October 5, 1935 June 30, 2008 Mary Webb Barnhill, longtime educator, died Monday, June 30, 2008, in Waco, Texas. Visitation will be 6 p.m., Thursday, July 3, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home, 6101 Bosque Blvd., with a memorial service following at 7:00 p.m. Mr. James Haney of Salado will officiate. Born October 5, 1935, in McGregor, she was the youngest of four daughters born to Graham and Grace Webb. She graduated from McGregor High School in 1954 and received degrees from North Texas State University 1957, Tarleton State University 1975 and Texas A&M University in 1976. She taught at high schools in Ballinger, Palacios, Robert Lee, Midway and Gatesville during her 34 years as a teacher and Vocational Counselor. Ms. Barnhill forged lasting ties with her students, as teacher, mentor and friend, maintaining contact with many of them long after they graduated. After retirement in 1995, she moved to Waco so she could be close to her farm in Coryell County and nearer her lifelong friends and family. She was known among her family and friends for her quiet generosity and diligent caregiving. An avid believer in higher education, Ms. Barnhill established The Mary Barnhill Endowed Scholarship to benefit students at Texas A&M University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and the College of Education and Human Development. Memorials may be made to the Mary Barnhill Endowed Scholarship Fund, Texas A&M Foundation, 410 George Bush Drive, College Station TX 77840-2811.
