Melinda Millican Yeary

October 12, 1941 — February 9, 2016

Melinda Millican Yeary October 12, 1941 – February 9, 2016 Melinda Millican Yeary of Waco, Texas, died on February 9, 2016, after a long struggle with Multiple Sclerosis. Melinda was 74. She is survived by her husband, Dan Yeary and their three children: John Weston, and his wife Erica, of Waco and their four children Braden, Caden, Aubrey, and Karis Joy; her daughter, Melissa Yeary Wells, wife of Dr. Steve Wells of Houston and their three children Rachel Wells Lawrence and her husband Blake of Dallas, Benjamin Wells, and Joshua Wells; and her son Doak Yeary of Palmetto Bay, Florida, and his wife, Amy, and their three children Sky, Colt, and River. She is also survived by her brother Bill Millican of Sun City Center, Florida and his wife Darlene, by her brother-in-law Ron “Speedy” Yeary of Cleburne and his wife Suzanne, by six nieces and a nephew, and by a multitude of people who were encouraged by her grace and faith. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bill and Loleta Millican. Melinda was born in Fort Worth on October 12, 1941. She professed faith in Christ at a Billy Graham crusade when she was 11 years old. She was a graduate of Arlington Heights High School and Texas Wesleyan University and became an elementary school teacher in Everman, Texas. Melinda and Dan met in 1959 at Glorieta Baptist Conference Center. They married in 1961 and together began a ministry that served churches in Texas, Kentucky, Florida, and Arizona. She was the consummate minister’s wife – working alongside her husband teaching, encouraging, and loving people. She loved her children and was devoted to her husband. She was an artist of hospitality and her life was characterized by grace, love, and forgiveness. Her most dominant characteristic was a servant spirit, free of complaint or criticism. She saw hope in everyday and good in every person she met. She has often been described as a “Proverbs 31 woman” and indeed, “her children arise and call her blessed and her husband praises her.” Her life was a living testimony to the joy of her Lord Jesus. A memorial service celebrating Melinda’s life will be held on Saturday, February 13th at the First Baptist Church of Woodway at 2:00 pm with a reception to follow in the church’s Event Center. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Melinda’s memory to First Baptist Church of Woodway, the Athletics Chaplain Program c/o Baylor University Gift Office, One Bear Place #97050, Waco, Texas 76798-7050, or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
