Melvin Lee Laughlin November 29, 1925 - November 18, 2012 Melvin Lee Laughlin of Waco passed away Sunday, November 18, 2012, at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center. Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 23, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel with the Rev. Jim Gray officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Friday, just prior to the service. Melvin, "Pedro", a childhood nickname, was born November 29, 1925, in Quinton, Oklahoma, to Claude and Jalie Laughlin. He attended schools in Russellville and Henryetta, OK. He entered the U.S. Navy in 1942 during WWII. Melvin was signalman, 3rd Class, on the USS LST268. He married Wanda Mae Harrison on July 16, 1951. To that union was born one child, Gail Ann. He retired from Hercules in McGregor, Texas, after 34 years. He was an avid golfer, had 5 holes-in-one, and enjoyed going to the family campouts in Oklahoma every summer and holiday gatherings. For many years he also enjoyed playing Croquet, Wahoo! and card games with the Harrison and Laughlin families. He loved to attend many of his grandsons' sports and watching them grow up. Melvin was a member of Mosheim Baptist Church in Mosheim. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers; and one sister. He is survived by his daughter, Gail McCarn and husband, Bob; grandsons, Ben and Brent McCarn; three brothers, Don Laughlin and wife, Nellie, Geral Laughlin and wife, Della Ann, and Harold Laughlin and wife, Rita; seven nieces; one nephew; and many friends throughout the years. Pallbearers will be Ben McCarn, Brent McCarn, Mike Laughlin, Rick Thompson, Dennis McCarn and Ernest Bartles. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
