Michael Dwayne Trantham, 75, of Waco, died Friday, March 10, 2023 at a local care center.
Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 13, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 14, at Trinity Lutheran Church at Badger Ranch with Pastor Kevin Lentz officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park.
Mike was born September 5, 1947 in Waco to Dwayne and Mary Ann Fiorella Trantham. He graduated from Waco High School in 1966. Michael joined the Waco Police Department in 1967 and retired as a detective in 1997. After retiring from the Police Department, he concentrated on his avocation of woodworking, making custom furniture items for many people, including furnishings for his own home. He enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson and driving his vintage 1952 red Chevy pick-up. The last few years, he was proud to participate in setting up the model train exhibit at the Mayborn Museum as well as setting up a train display in his workshop.
Mike married Carol Pick in 1969 and they were blessed with 53 years of marriage. They have one son, Anthony Dwayne Trantham. Mike was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church where he had many friends.
He is survived by his wife, Carol, of Waco; his son, Anthony and wife, Melissa; granddaughters, Abigail and husband, Justus Cogdell and Sofia Trantham all of Austin; his sister, Nora and brother-in-law, Brad Leftwich of Waco; sister-in-law, Sharon Devora of Pipe Creek, Texas; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Memorials may be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, Alzheimer’s or ALS research or the Community Health Care Hospice.
