MILDRED CANNAMORE ADAMS April 1, 1919 - September 7, 2007 Mildred Adams, 88, passed from this life on Friday evening, September 7, 2007 in Waco and into the arms of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Services will be held at 2pm on Tuesday, September 11, 2007 at Columbus Avenue Baptist Church with Dr. Ed Carter officiating. Interment will be at Salem Cemetery, Irene, Texas. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 pm on Monday, September 10, 2007 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey. Mildred Louellen was born on April 1, 1919 in Dawson, Texas to George Chester and Louise Taylor York Cannamore. At the age of 2 they moved to Irene, Texas, where she grew up and graduated from Irene High School. She was a member of First Baptist Church, Irene, where she gave her heart to Jesus at the age of nine. She worked in the Irene Post Office before moving to Waco to attend Four-C Business College. She lived with Mr. and Mrs. George See at their boarding house on N. 9th and thru a fellow boarder and friend met the love of her life and future husband, Calvin Hathaway Adams. After finishing Four-C, she worked in the General Office of William Cameron Company from 1941-1951 until leaving shortly before the birth of their first daughter to become a stay-at-home wife and mother. On November 2, 1945, shortly after Calvin returned from spending 2 years of WWII in England, they were married by Dr. Dawson in the parsonage of First Baptist Church. They soon joined Columbus Avenue Baptist Church and bought a new home in the Circle on N. 11th where they nurtured their two daughters in an environment of faith, love and joy. Mildred was homemaker, PTA member/officer, home room mother, chaperone and chauffeur for her daughters and their friends throughout their school years. She was a member of the Miriam/Willing Workers Sunday School Class for which she was treasurer up until her death. Unable to attend, for the past several years, she faithfully worshipped with CABC via television. Mildred never met a stranger and never forgot anyone she met. She shared God's love with everyone, if not in person, via an untold number of cards and roses. She had been known to use the phone book as her Christmas card list. She loved to cut articles and pictures out of the paper to send to friends and families and on occasion to people she had never met - the grandkids called them Nana Grams. Last week she expressed the desire to send everyone she knew a card telling them she loved them and good-by. Mildred was selfless, humble, forgiving, kind and loved us all with an unconditional love that could only come from having accepted the love of Jesus and His promises. She adopted the heart as her symbol of love and adorned every card, paid bill, and everything that would stand still with them. A single red rose was recognized throughout Waco as her signature of love and hugs. She had a wonderful sense of humor evident even in her last hours; as one of the nurses said she is a cutie. Her last thoughts were for the comfort and well-being of Calvin and her grandkids. She left a table full of cards addressed and awaiting hearts and notes of love - to all of you! We are devastated and will always be, but only for us. Mildred closed her eyes to this world and immediately entered the presence of Jesus, who she talked to constantly, up until the last minute. If you heard singing around 6 last night, it was the reunion in Heaven that awaits us all! She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sisters-in-law, Arvel and Jessie and Elmer and Blanche Cannamore, brothers Theo and Little Vernon Cannamore; two nephews, Bruce and Truett Cannamore; parents-in-law, Calvin and Ethel Adams; sister-in-law, Ruth Adams and a host of others who are rejoicing with her in Heaven.
