Mildred was born on February 8, 1922, in San Antonio to Neil and Helen Dix Craig. The family moved to Riesel in 1932, where they lived in a section house close to the train depot. Her father, Neil Craig, was a depot agent and telegrapher, and her mother, Helen, was a homemaker. After graduating from RHS in 1939, where she was the first cheerleader, Mildred attended Texas State College for Women in Denton. During the years of raising their family, she and Claude became active members of Trinity Baptist Church, San Antonio. Mildred and Claude returned to Riesel in 1983 and built their retirement home, where their five grandchildren could visit and enjoy "country life" experiences, such as fishing for bass and catfish in the tank. They became active members of First Baptist Church, Marlin, Texas. Mildred was also involved in community service organizations in the Riesel area. Mildred and Claude were married for 67 years.
