Morris Markieth Brown was born on Sunday, November 8, 1964 to Robert and Nelda Brown, and was reared in the rural East Texas Summerfield community of Gilmer. A self-proclaimed country boy with simple family and philanthropic values, he passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2013, at the age of 48 in Waco, Texas, where he had been a four-year resident. The younger of two children, early on, Morris exhibited a passion for singing. As an active member of Oak Grove CME Church, he united with a group called the "Young Gospel Male Chorus" who ministered through song routinely in both neighboring and faraway cities. Even into adulthood, Morris remained connected with the group and reunited to perform for special events and other scheduled engagements. Morris was most recently a faithful member of Faith Christian Center in Harker Heights, Texas, where he served as a Deacon, Trustee, President of the Men's Ministry, and a member of the Male Chorus. Morris graduated from Gilmer High School in spring of 1983. Thereafter, he attended Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, Texas and ultimately received a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Counseling. He devoted his entire professional career to counseling and helping youth, first working as Associate Headmaster at the Brush Ranch School, located in Tererro, New Mexico. He then relocated to Dallas, Texas, accepting a position as the Assessment Center Supervisor and eventually became the Director of Residential Services at Buckner Children and Family Services, a 134-year old institution established to serve children and families through community, family, and empowerment programs humanitarian aid/support. Most recently, he served as the Program Director for the Waco office of Arrow Child and Family Ministries, a Christian foster care and adoption service agency committed to promoting and enhancing the positive growth of children and families through preventive, supportive, and therapeutic services. Morris loved to read and continually strived for betterment, both for himself, his family and his community. His life's mantra could easily be tagged as "when you learn, teach. When you get, give". Morris was preceded in death by his parents. He leaves to loving memory, his wife of nine years, Shirl; children: Joshua, Morghan, Logan and Kyndall; sister, Gazette Waters Jones and husband, Bobby; parents-in-law, Pastor John and Beulah Johnson; sisters-in-law, Sheri Broadous and husband, Timothy, Sr., Sondra Campbell and husband, Chris, and Sandy Collins and husband, Donald; aunts: Bettie Bradford, Esther Brown, Rosie Howell, Mavonee Jeffries, Margaret Oliver, and Lois Tomlin; a niece, Aveia Jones; eleven nephews: Christopher John Campbell, Timothy Broadous II, John Broadous, Benjamin Broadous, Damien Jones, Curtis Campbell, Daniel Broadous, Samuel Broadous, Donovan Collins, Devon Collins and Deron Collins; and countless cousins and friends.
