Msgt. Barham Byars

MSgt. BARHAM BYARS RET. MSgt. Barham Byars Ret., age 88, of Waco died Wednesday, November 20, 2002 at a Temple hospital. Masonic graveside services will be held at 11am Friday, November 22 at Oakwood Cemetery with Dr. R. Scott Walker officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 6:30-8pm Thursday, November 21 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd. MSgt. Byars was born in Nacogdoches County April 18, 1914 to Minnie and Walter P. Byars. He joined the infantry at the age of 17 and was a veteran of WWII. He later joined the Air Force and was stationed at James Connally Air Force Base, where he retired after 31 years of service. He was a member of the Corsicana Masonic Lodge #174 for over 50 years and was a Shriner. After retirement, he worked for A. O. Smith Corporation and Baylor University Police Department. He was a member of First Baptist Church and was a member of the Abner McCall Sunday Class. Survivors include son, Bruce E. Byars and wife, Sherry, grandson, Bruce W. Byars all of Woodway, brother-in-law, Arden Baker of Nacogdoches, brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Paul and Claudie Crawford of Houston, and several nieces and nephews.
