Myra Shipper October 4, 1914 - April 20, 2008 Myra Shipper passed away Sunday, April 20, 2008. Services will be at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 23 at Austin Avenue United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Fake of Houston and Rev. Don Scott of Waco officiating. Burial will follow at Kosse Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 22 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Mrs. Shipper was born October 4, 1914 in Lovelady, TX to John and Viola Holliday. After completing her early education, she graduated from Sam Houston University and began her teaching career in a two room school in the Willow Creek Community in Robertson County. There she met and married P.A. "Bill" Shipper, a local farmer and rancher on May 13, 1939. They had one daughter, June Shipper. She taught in several area schools over the next few years and finally for 17 years at South Waco Elementary in the WISD before her retirement in 1978. Myra has been a long time member of Austin Avenue United Methodist Church and particularly enjoyed the many years she worked there with Meals on Wheels. She contributed to many worthy causes especially those devoted to helping children. She was a wonderful wife and mother; an excellent teacher, a talented artist, a master gardener and a great cook. She will be greatly missed. Mrs. Shipper was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill Shipper; two sisters and four brothers. Survivors include one daughter, June Shipper of Waco and several nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Joe Lynn Sadler, Jeff Holliday, Joel Holliday, Steven Walston, Byron Walston and Rob Wallingford. Honorary pallbearers are Ray Moore, Chris Prewitt, Charles Prewitt, Bill Walker, Keith Phillips and James Sadler. Special thanks to Dr. Ross Shipp for his many years of expert care and concern and to her devoted caregivers, Ella McCoy and Gladys Simmons. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels or the charity of your choice.
