THORNE, NADINE Nadine Brown Thorne, 82, of Waco, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2004, at her daughter, Gloria's residence. Services will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 8 at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey chapel with Dr. William M. Lynch officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial North. Visitation with the family will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7 at the funeral home. Mrs. Thorne was born February 22, 1922 in Evant, Texas to Henry Milton and Eva Gertrude Marshall Brown. She attended schools in Coryell County and graduated from Gatesville High School with honors. While living in Leon Junction she met and married Hollis Robert Thorne, the love of her life, on June 1, 1940. The couple moved to Waco that same year. After her youngest child was of age, she worked as a clerk for Montgomery Ward and Waco Hardware as a buyer until it closed. She joined and became an active member of First Church of the Nazarene, Waco in January 1946, working in the nursery, teaching Sunday school, serving as missionary president and church board member. Hollis and Nadine were constantly entertaining their pastor, visiting evangelists and missionaries, and their families, in their home. She loved cooking the Sunday noon meal each and every Sunday for all her extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 63 years on March 2, 2004; sisters, Geraldine Brown Evans and Ouida Brown Green; and brothers, James Arelon Brown, Harold Milton Brown, Bobbie Lee Brown and Ray Van Brown. She is survived by daughters, Gloria Hill and husband John of Woodway; Linda Stivener of Robinson; son, Ronnie Thorne and wife Donna of Robinson; grandchildren, Sherri Carrillo and husband Ramon of Woodway, David Hill and wife Laura of Waco, April Stivener of Denton, Jeremy Stivener of Robinson and Andy Thorne of Robinson; great-grandchildren, Ashley and Brendan Carrillo and Lauren Lee. She is also survived by sisters, Mildred Parrish of Evant and Polly Cummings-Guess and husband Tom of Waco; brothers, Kenneth Brown and wife Nita of Gatesville, Morris Brown of Hamilton and Billy Mac Brown and wife Linda of Aleman; sisters-in-law, Mabeline Brown and Eva Brown, both of Lampasas, Wanda Brown of Gatesville and Hewlett McHargue and husband Harmon of Robinson; and by numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Andy Thorne, Ronnie Thorne, Jeremy Stivener, David Hill, Ashley Carrillo and Ramon Carrillo. The family wishes to express their sincere and heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Lauren Barron and Hillcrest Community Hospice, especially Connie, Kim and Christi, and volunteers Martha and Sue.
