Nelda E. Anderson, at 102 years, has passed on to be with her Savior. Her passing occurred peacefully Saturday, October 22, 2022, in The Woodlands, Texas. Services will be held Saturday, November 5 at 11:30 a.m., at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home (6101 Bosque Blvd., Waco), with Pastor Gary Kreder officiating. Burial will follow at Rosemond Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey.
Nelda was a long-term resident of Mart and spent most of her life in Central Texas. Born as Nelda Holub, she was the youngest of nine children and the last to join the group in heaven. Annie, Mary, Emma, Libby, Rose, Fred, George, and Edwin preceded her. Longevity was in the genes as three ladies made it to 99 and several men made it in to the 90s. She grew up in the Holub family in the community of Elk where the family had a small farm. The family was very active in the local SPJST lodge in Elk where their father was a founder. They had many other relatives in this small community. The family raised their own foods and livestock and were true organic farmers before it became popular. Nelda and her siblings were a close family and survived the Great Depression and WWII. Nelda met her husband, Trumon Anderson, during WWII in a bomb factory in McGregor. They were married for 38 years when Trumon passed. She has one son, Lon Anderson of The Woodlands. Nelda was very active for most of her life and enjoyed gardening and animals. She became a Dietetics Supervisor for the VA Hospital in Marlin and worked tirelessly there until retirement.
She had several passions in life that she enjoyed daily. Trumon and Nelda moved to the City of Mart in 1966 to a Vintage House with about 2 acres of land. She loved to garden and had about half an acre that she worked into her 90s. She loved to make peach cobbler and grew the best tomatoes in Mart. She loved goats, chickens, and puppy dogs. Nelda attended the First Baptist Church in Mart for many years and was close to all the pastors and churchgoers. Nelda also loved to dance and did so with Trumon as long as they could. She and her sister Rose were two of the best domino players in Central Texas and they had the ribbons to prove it. Nelda was a big sports fan and loved watching the Cowboys, Mavericks, and Rangers. She and her brother Edwin would often call each other to try to discuss why the coaches didn’t make the calls that they would have.
She was a lady that was friendly to all that knew her. Her son Lon and family, and most other visitors, could never leave her house without a gift of food. She also gave away much of the produce that she grew in her garden.
Nelda was extremely happy to be a mother-in-law to Lon’s wife Paula. They met in the Houston area and were married in 1985. In 1989, she became a grandmother as Christina Marie Anderson was born. In 1994, Eric Edward Anderson was born, and the love and spoiling continued to grow. Nelda had help on the spoiling from sisters Rose and Mary, who both lived close by. Could anyone say “kolache”? Later in life, Rose and Nelda relocated to The Woodlands and continued their loving relationship until Rose’s passing in early 2014.
Nelda was preceded in death by her husband, Trumon Anderson; and her eight siblings, Annie Payne, Mary Norman, Emma Miller, Libby Smajstrla, Rose Ganser, Fred Holub, George Holub, and Edwin E. Holub.
She is survived by her son, Lon Anderson and wife, Paula, of The Woodlands; two grandchildren, Christina Anderson, of Denver, and Eric Anderson, of Seattle; and several nieces and nephews from the Holub and Gulig Families that will be attending the services and celebrating her life.
