Nellie McDowell July 11, 1915 - August 9, 2013 Nellie McDowell of Waco left this earth to be welcomed into her heavenly home on Friday, August 9, 2013. A private graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, August 17, at Rosemound Cemetery with The Rev. Curtis Holland officiating. Nellie was born July 11, 1915, in Denison, Texas, to Roy and Mary McDowell. She moved to Waco in the first grade and graduated from LaVega High School. She was a beloved and devoted member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church in Waco, where she faithfully volunteered in many capacities. She dedicated her life to serving God, her church, and two families who were blessed to enjoy Nellie "Nanny" as an adopted member of their families. They loved and were loved by Nanny all of her life. She shared her generous spirit, firm faith, hard work and gift of hospitality with four generations of both families. She was preceded in death by her parents; and one brother, Carl McDowell. The families are very thankful for the kindness and excellent care given to Nellie by the staff of Regent Care Center and Odyssey Hospice.
