Niels E. Olsen, Sr.

OLSEN, SR., NIELS E. Niels E. Olsen, Sr., age 76, of Waco died December 20, 2001 at a local hospital. A memorial service will be held at 2:30PM Sunday, December 23rd at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Chapel, 6101 Bosque Blvd. with Rev. Steve Langford officiating. Visitation with the family will be 4:00-6:00PM Saturday, December 22nd at the funeral home. Mr. Olsen was born January 13, 1925 in Seymour, Texas to John W. and Willie Bailes Olsen. He served in the U.S. Naval Air Force as a tail gunner and radioman during WWII. He attended Clifton Junior College and Baylor University. He married Leta Faye Rhyne August 9, 1951 in Waco. He went to Air Traffic Controller School in Oklahoma City and served as an air traffic controller in the Fort Worth, Houston and San Antonio Centers, retiring after 35 years. He was a Waco Reserve Police Officer. He loved his ranch in Clifton and loved flying as a pilot. He was a member of Cogdell United Methodist Church, J.H. Gurley Masonic Lodge and Waco No.7 O.E.S. He was preceded in death by daughter, Juliana Olsen-Moore, one brother and three sisters. Survivors include his wife, Leta Faye Olsen of Waco, daughter, Marianne Olsen Bussell and husband, Mark of Fort Worth, sons, Niels Olsen, Jr. of Waco, John R. Olsen and wife, Peggy of Waco, grandson, Daniel Olsen Moore, and sister, Dorothy Lankford of Lubbock. Memorials may be made to Providence Hospice. WILKIRSON-HATCH-BAILEY
