Nieves J Rodriguez August 5, 1921 – September 6, 2005 Nieves J Rodriguez passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2005 at his residence. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2005, at St. Louis Catholic Church with the Rev. David Leibham officiating. Entombment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Mr. Rodriguez was born August 5, 1921 in Waco, McLennan County, to Isaac Rodriguez and Florencia Estrada Rodriguez. Mr. Rodriguez married Blasa Duron on September 27, 1941. They were married for 59 ½ years. He served in Blatna, Czeckoslovakia and Germany during World War II in Co.A 51st ARM’D Infantry Battalion, 4th ARM’D Division, 3rd Army. Captain Rodriguez began his career as a Waco police officer in 1951. In October, 1958, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant and assigned to the Detective Division. He served in that division until 1963, at which time he was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to the Patrol Division. In January 1969, Captain Rodriguez was promoted to the rank of Captain and assigned to head the Uniform Division. In October 1973, he was assigned to head the Criminal Investigations Division. On July 16, 1975, Captain Rodriguez was assigned to head Community Services Division. In July, 1977, he was assigned to head the Support Services Division. From 1979 to 1990, Captain Rodriguez became the Assistant Police Chief to Chief Larry Scott. He retired from the Waco Police Department on February 28, 1990. Captain Rodriguez was a 1968 graduate of the FBI National Academy in Washington, DC and Quantico, VA. He is survived by his daughters, Mary Bertine Romo and husband Guadalupe Romo, Teresa Quackenbush and Patti Rodriguez Daly, three granddaughters, Eleanor Romo, Susan Caulfield and husband Daniel and Katheryn Lynn Sadler; two great-grandchildren, Thomas Morgan Caulfield and Julie Elizabeth Sadler. He was preceded in death by his wife, Blasa Duron Rodriguez, his mother, Florencia Rodriguez Estrada and father, Isaac Rodriguez.
