Nita Steinmann

Nita Steinmann passed away to her heavenly home on Thursday, November 25, 2021. Graveside services will be at 10:00 am, Wednesday, December 1, at Waco Memorial Park with Rev. John DeGiorgio officiating. Visitation will be 5:00 pm-7:00 pm, Tuesday, November 30, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Funeral Home. Nita was born February 29, 1928, in Seldon, Texas, to Marshall and Vella Kay. Nita graduated from Baylor University with a degree in elementary education. She was a beloved WISD first grade schoolteacher for over 30 years and many of her students were like family. While at Baylor, she met her husband of 56 years, Walter, an elementary school principal. They both retired from WISD as valued & respected educators. Nita was an active member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church, where she worked in the library, cared for the elderly and sick, or baked her famous goodies for youth mission trips. As a master gardener, she enjoyed working in her beautiful yard and was an active member of the garden club. Most of all she loved spending time with her grandsons Carson and Blake where she was crowned the name DeeDee. She spent the last three years with her family in Granbury, but Waco was her cherished home. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Morgan Kay; and her husband, Walter Steinmann. She is survived by her son, Dr. Bryan Steinmann, and wife, Christine; and grandsons, Carson, and wife, Lindy, and Blake. She was a cherished mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother but we are grateful she is enjoying her eternal life with her Lord and Savior and look forward to seeing her again one day.
