Norma Evelyn Jones June 8, 1918 October 6, 2015 Norma Evelyn Jones, a former Waco resident for many years, passed away at the age of 97, October 6, 2015, in New Braunfels, Texas, with her daughter at her side. Graveside services will be held 11:00 a.m., Monday, October 12, at Waco Memorial Park with Mitchell Parrish officiating. Norma Jones was born in Powderly, Texas, on June 8, 1918, the youngest of eleven children born to Edna Ann Roads Smyers and William Coleman Smyers. She attended schools in Powderly. She moved to Paris, Texas, with three of her sisters, then to Dallas and later to Waco, where she worked at Hawk and Buck and Pipkin Drug for several years. She met William Albert Jones and they were married on May 19, 1939. They had two children, William Larry Jones and Donna Kay Jones. Norma became a homemaker and was involved in her children's school PTA, where she served as president and was active in many school committees and events. She was an active member of Herring Avenue Methodist Church until its closing, where she served on the board for many years. Preceding her in death were her husband, William Albert; her son, Larry; her three brothers, Bill, Joe and Lester; and seven sisters, Delora, Minnie, Ellen, Mamie, Opal, Theo and Cleo. She is survived by her daughter, Donna Kay Jones Cox and husband, Tom, of New Braunfels; and one niece, Rita January, of Bellmead, Texas.
