OLIVE GOODING LOUDEN A resident of Waco for 63 years, Olive Gooding Louden, Mrs. H. Malcolm Louden, of Waco, Texas died on Wednesday, August 3, 2005 at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center. Services will be held 11:00AM on Saturday, August 6, 2005 at First Presbyterian Church, 1100 Austin Ave., with the Reverend Jimmie Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. Services are through Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey, 6101 Bosque Blvd, Waco, Texas. Olive Gooding Louden was born in Delaware County, Ohio on June 18, 1911, to Ruth Maddox and John O. Gooding. A devoted daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend, Olive truly led a life with great meaning for a better world and gave freely of her many talents. Olive attended schools in Columbus, Ohio and graduated from Ohio State University in June, 1933 with a BS degree in education. A member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and recognized as an outstanding student in Ohio State’s Hall of Fame, she was a member of Chimes Honor Society, Mortar Board and the Student Senate. She was vice president of the Class of 1933 and served two terms as the first woman elected to the Ohio State University’s Student Court. Olive married her 7th grade sweetheart, H. Malcolm Louden, on September 29, 1934. In October, 2004 Olive and Malcolm were recognized by President George W. and Laura Bush on the celebration of their 70th wedding anniversary. Olive and Malcolm were best friends for 82 years. During their early married years, Olive and Malcolm lived first in Cleveland, Ohio and then in Muncie, Indiana. In 1942, Olive moved to Waco with her husband and young son, when her husband was transferred to Waco by Owens Illinois Glass Company for the construction and operation of the OI glass container factory. She was active in the First Presbyterian Church as a Bible Leader and Sunday school teacher, PTA, Salvation Army Board, Fort House Board, United Way, Waco Historic Society, Friday Forum and Junior League. She is also remembered as being the first person to volunteer for any job that would improve the Waco public school system and was known as the consummate room mother. She served as the First Lady of Waco in 1968 and 1969 when her husband was mayor. She was preceded in death by sons James Keith Louden II, John G. Louden and grandson John Gooding Louden, Jr., a sister, Ada G. Dickley, and parents. She is survived by her loving husband, H. Malcolm Louden, son, G. Malcolm Louden, and his wife, Ann, and children, Malcolm, Jr., Taylor, and Carey, all of Fort Worth, Texas, and by the children of her deceased son, John: Dr. Keith W. Louden, wife, Dina, and their children, Sydney and Kyle, of Granbury, Texas; Brian J. Louden and daughter, Lauren, of San Antonio, Texas; and Elizabeth D. Louden of Fort Worth, Texas, and three nieces and two nephews. She is also survived by the special families of John and Carol Jansen and Nancy J. Louden of San Antonio, Barbara Meadows and her late husband Bill of Waco, Texas and Rosalie W. Louden of Fort Worth, Texas. The family would like to express their sincere and heartfelt gratitude to the following for the loving care, friendship and love that they gave to Olive and Malcolm during her later years: Dorothy Williams, Agnes Decker, Carolyn Hopkins, Willene Ferguson, Darlene Jones and Rosa Pevia.
