O. M. Mark Fuqua September 1, 1920 - February 16, 2010 Ollie Marcellus Fuqua, 89, of Waco went home to his Heavenly family on Tuesday, Feb. 16, 2010 at Wesley Woods Alzheimer's Care Center. Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 18, at Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey the Rev. Mark Wible officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 17, in the Wilkirson-Hatch-Bailey Garden Room. The family will receive visitors beginning at 1:00 p.m. prior to service on Thursday. Mark was born Sept. 1, 1920 in Waco to Lu Jean and Mary Lynch Fuqua. He graduated from Waco High School in 1938 and received an accounting diploma from Central City College in 1939. He worked at Jones Fine Bread, Swift & Co., and the Ice House before enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1942, based at Waco Army Airfield. He married the love of his life, Lorraine Jones Fuqua on June 5, 1943 and was stationed in Waco, Houston and San Antonio. Upon his honorable discharge, he enrolled in Baylor University on the G.I. Bill. He attended eight years of night classes while working for the Veterans Administration and raising a family. He was an outstanding employee and turned down promotions in order to keep his family in Waco. He was employed by the V.A. for 41 years as Chief Fiscal Officer and retired in 1981. After retirement, he kept books for Mac's Camper Sales and did income taxes for numerous friends and family. He was a member of Highland Baptist Church. Mark loved the outdoors and could be found dove hunting every year on his birthday. He was an avid golfer and continued to play weekly until 2005. He and Lorraine farmed a small plot of land in Golinda and enjoyed the vegetables they grew. He was a Mason and Shriner for over 60 years and was active in marketing Shrine publications. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine, of 67 years; daughter, Cindy Fuqua Potts and husband, Franklin, of Woodway; and son, Larry Fuqua and wife, Gail of Grapevine, TX; grandsons, Matthew Gillham and wife, Keely of Arlington, TX., Mark Gillham and fiance, Amy Donnell of Waco and Cody Fuqua of Grapevine; granddaughter, Dawn Gillham Hogue and husband, Russell of McKinney, TX; great grandchildren, Macy & Kyle Hogue of McKinney, Tanner Gillham of Waco, Elle Gillham of Arlington and Derrick Gillham of Waco. He also has three step-grandchildren. Special thanks to friends at Bluebonnet Hospice and the compassionate caregivers at Wesley Woods Alzheimer's Care Center.
