Oma Story October 18, 1907 – March 30, 2006 Oma Lancaster Story, 98, passed away peacefully Thursday, March 30, 2006 at a local private care facility. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 pm, March 31 at Corrigan Funeral Home, Corrigan, Texas. Graveside services will be at 1:00 pm Saturday, April 1 at Union Springs Cemetery in Corrigan with Ed Wittner officiating. Oma was born October 18, 1907 on a farm in Trinity County, Texas to Jesse James and Margaret Lovett Lancaster. She received her education and spent most of her early life in the Diboll and the Corrigan area. While living in Diboll, she met Billie G. Story on Easter Sunday, April 20, 1924. They both were members of the choir at First Baptist Church. She moved shortly afterward with her mother and step-father to a farm near Electra, Texas. Billie followed her there and they were married December 15, 1924. In 1927, their home was destroyed by a tornado and they moved back to Diboll. Billie worked for Temple Lumber Company and Oma was a full time mother and homemaker. She taught Sunday school for many years, was very active in Women’s Missionary Society and all other church activities. She served many years as PTA President and also as a Regional PTA Director. Billie suffered a stroke in 1947 and retired before he and Oma relocated to Waco in 1955 to be near their son and family. Oma worked for the State of Texas as a Housemother at Waco State Home. She retired in 1974. After Billie’s death in 1963, she traveled extensively throughout the United States and Canada with two of her sisters, Trudie and Sechrest and her husband, O. B. Godfrey. Oma was a longtime member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church and loved singing in the Senior Choir until declining health prevented her from attending. She was a strong Christian woman, helping many friends and especially family throughout her life. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Billie G. Story; daughter-in-law, Helen Story; granddaughter, Linda Story and sisters, Luna Cockrell, Opal Walters, Trudie Nielson and Bonnie King. She is survived by her son, Billy Bill Story and wife, Nell of Waco; grandsons, Dr. Mark Story and wife, Peggie and Alan Story and wife, Jaye of Richardson; great granddaughter, Elizabeth Story of Winston Salem, NC; great grandson, Matthew Story of Waco; sisters, Sechrest Godfrey of Houston and Mildred Munn of Corrigan; brother, Cecil Lancaster of Houston; nephews, Robert Walters who was raised by Oma as a son and wife, Frances, William Mickle and wife Deanna of Houston, Erlene Cockrell and wife, Betty of Lufkin and Eugene Cockrell and wife, Billie of Corrigan; nieces, Joyce Walters of Corrigan, Billie Jo McMullen and husband, Robert of Conroe and a host of great nieces, nephews and their children. The family would like to thank her caregivers and the owners of Eden House Private Care Facility for the love and excellent care they provided for Oma.
